In over 40 kilometers, you will experience almost 100 years of harbour history, as well as the harbour of tomorrow and the day after. On a comfortable coach, you will pass by: Rotterdam Merwehaven, Waalhaven, Eemhaven, Botlek, Europoort, and Maasvlakte. Along the way, enjoy views of iconic locations like the Erasmus Bridge from Willemsplein and the most modern container terminals and largest sea vessels at Maasvlakte 2. Who will you take on this unforgettable adventure?
What does this day look like?
The day starts at 11:00 AM at Port Pavilion at Leuvehaven in the center of Rotterdam. Here, residents and visitors of the port city can find information and inspiration to explore the harbour and truly get to know it. The eleven-meter-long photo model with interactive projection gives you a sneak peek of what awaits you during the day.
Then, you’ll take a 10-minute walk to Willemsplein at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge. From there, you’ll travel by comfortable coach through the harbour to the Portlantis experience center on Maasvlakte 2. Along the way, the harbour comes to life. Discover Portlantis – a futuristic experience center
Upon arrival at Portlantis, you’ll step into a world full of interactive experiences. Located on Maasvlakte 2 between beach and dune, this new experience center brings everything about the harbour together in one impressive adventure. A challenging day out where you’ll discover how the harbour works, what it means for our daily lives, and what the harbour of the future will look like.
Experience the harbour in surprising ways. Your journey of discovery will include augmented reality and interactive games. There’s plenty to do on and around the building as well. The giant red stairs that frame the building will lead you to the panoramic deck. Here, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view!
Inside, discover the harbour in a unique and playful way:
- Step into the shoes of a dock worker: Control an inland vessel under the Erasmus Bridge or operate a gigantic terminal crane with realistic joysticks.
- Experience the harbour in Virtual Reality: Wear a VR headset and feel like you’re on the largest container ships or see how artificial reefs protect the seabed.
- Feel the power of the harbour: Sit in a special cinema room with 24 seats – with seatbelts – and take a virtual journey through the harbour area.
- The impact of the harbour on your life: Discover how goods from all over the world enter Rotterdam and what the harbour means for the economy, the environment, and safety.
Tour Portlantis Ferry
After your visit to Portlantis, you’ll take a one-hour boat tour and experience the harbour from the water. Sail past gigantic container ships, impressive terminals, and the colossal quay walls of Maasvlakte 2. On board, an expert guide will tell you all about the most modern and smartest harbour in Europe.
After an inspiring day at Portlantis and an impressive boat tour, the coach will depart at 4:30 PM, heading back to Rotterdam. Will you join this unique journey through the harbour?
